A Guide to Valentine's Day Night!

Its that time of year again, and if you're a procrastinator like me than you've probably waited until today to figure out what to do for Valentines Day. If that's the case or your simply out of ideas, here are some of my ideas for gifts and a perfect V-Night. Amusez-Vous!

V-Day Night Out
Boardwalk/Carnival: Sure maybe its been done a million times before, but that doesn't make it any less romantic. You're never to old to go the the carnival, especially with a special someone. Carnivals are the best because they have romance, activity and food all wrapped in one. Hitch a ride on the Ferris Wheel, then hit the bell on the high striker to show off your muscles. Sample everything  hot-dogs, funnel cakes, candy apples, cotton candy...everything. Play games like ring toss and balloon darts until you win because no carnival night is complete without winning the biggest stuffed animal for your date. And last, hop on the carousel and find that seat with the creepy swan heads, so you can kiss your faces off.

Old New York: If you or your special friend are anything like me, you're a sucker for all things New York, especially the classic. Instead of dinner and a movie, how about dinner and dancing? There are still plenty of places in the city that appreciate real romance, like Swing 46. A jazz and supper club in the heart of the city where the menu is top notch and so is the live music. After that, how about a horse drawn carriage ride through Central Park. Now whats more classic New York than that?

Dinner & A Movie: I know, but it isn't just any old dinner and movie. Go the extra mile to make it special by decorating your apartment. Get a pretty red table cloth, flick the light switch off and use candles to light the room. Cook (or cater) your partners favorite foods or maybe a meal they love but can't afford to have often. Treat this dinner as if you were actually at a restaurant (no paper plates). Now for the movie, depending on what kind of couple you are you may enjoy cliche rom-coms or violent slashers on V-Day. The film choice is completely up to you, although it'll probably just serve as a white noise background symphony to your making out. Bon Appétit!

V-Day Gifts
Flowers: Duh! No matter what the century, flowers are always a good idea. However, over the years the art of flower giving has lost its way. You do know that roses aren't the only kind of flowers right? The flowers that you give are supposed to reflect a mood and how you feel about the person you're giving them to. Take your time at the florist and create a bouquet that truly reflects your partners personality and how they make you feel. Every flower means something. If you know they have a favorite, then go with that. Just remember, bodega grocery store bouquets are a no no!

A Mixtape: So Retro! I know it's totally 80's but c'mon, its cute. Create a playlist of songs that remind you of your special someone. Maybe you have a "song", or maybe you had a special moment once when a certain song was playing in the background. Add it! Go a step further and put the playlist on one of those cool new colorful transparent vinyl records, add a picture of the 2 of you together for the cover. Maybe you can play it during your at-home dinner date.

Candy: Not everyone likes chocolate, and some of us are just plain allergic. Plus, lets be honest unless its Lady Godiva or Sir Ghiradelli, its probably gross anyway. No one wants to play Russian Roulette with chocolates from CVS. Instead, head to Dylan's Candy Bar and bag up a pound of you partners favorite candies. With everything from sour rings, to pop rocks to every flavor jelly beans Im sure they'd appreciate that more. Maybe get a giant gummy bear for fun.
